› Description
Ricordea florida is an iconic Caribbean corallimorph species that can be found in a rainbow of different colorful morphs. Relatively easy to keep if introduced to an established reef aquarium, these polyps prefer more light than the Discosoma and Rhodactis species of corallimorphs. Once multiplying, ricordea polyps will create an interlocking 'jig-saw' colony that appears as a beautiful carpet across your live rock. By combining multiple color morphs together, one can create a Technicolor carpet that will surely be the centerpiece of your aquascape.
Ricordea can acquire nearly all of their energy requirements via photosynthesis. However, to maximize growth and reproduction, we recommend feeding frozen black worms or zoplankton-type coral foods for Ricordea polyps. Feeding is best accomplished with all the water flow turned off to maximize the ability for the polyp to completely feed. Otherwise,Ricordea are able to gather most of their nutrition from dissolved organic compounds and detritus (aka marine snow) in the aquarium.
Please note that our WYSIWYG ricordea polyps are sold unattached to plugs or heavy live rock. There will be a small amount of coralline rubble on the underside of the polyp that can be super-glued to the live rock or plug of your choice. Step-by-step instructions on attachment can be found here...
